I FOUND MY QUOTE IN FANKENSTEIN!!!

"That the brightness of a beloved eye can have been extinguished and the sound of a voice so familiar and dear to the ear can be hushed, never more to be heard."

I chose this quote because I do not wholly understand it. It makes me very sad (at least the part that I believe to understand about it) because it says that once something is familiar and dear to you... it loses its jive. That once we 'get used' to something, it doesn't just stop being new, but stops BEING at all. To think that we could really be as simple of creatures that we need things to change, to become better, brighter, bigger and faster just to keep us happy, is humiliating. We have lost the beauty of consistency and traded it for insecurity. We found out that if you change things too fast, or too slow, people are never happy. And then they become discontent with the few things in their lives that stay constant, like the color of a persons' eyes or the tones of their voice. We have become creatures that need to be entertained, need to be spoon fed entertainment from different ways of life. We must be told what to wear, when to wear it, and how to wear it. What to watch, when to go to school, when to wake up in the morning. Who we should be friends with and how we should treat our friends. What choices make us cool, and what the definition of 'cool' is in the first place. Our world has us under its belt, and makes us think in a certain way which makes us forget the simple beauties of small consistent things that we had once loved. Sad... but true.

So that is what I got out of the quote... anyone else get something???
