Forbidden Knowledge
In the myth of Prometheus he is punished for giving the people forbidden knowledge... In Frankenstein, Victor is punished for searching for forbidden knowledge... In society we are all punished for our search of "forbidden" knowledge or just ideas that others don't find acceptable. In the case of stem cell research some people search for ways to cure diseases, and our looked down upon for their ways of acquiring this research.

It has actually become a lot more acceptable to think about "forbidden" knowledge. Mrs. S said that within the ten years that she has been here, no students would speak out for gay rights, and now she can barely get a student to stand up against it. Our current society isn't intolerant, I would say the were encouraging to outside ideas!
ReplyDeletehaha, it was good to see that you blogged Kody! And good point, sounds a lot like what our group talked about today in class.
ReplyDeleteThe whole idea of forbidden knowledge- I think that its more of a control issue than anything else. When we seek to think about "forbidden" issues, or even seek to learn about them, it gives us an opinion on an idea that only select few had before... The understanding is deeper then what we think sometimes.
