"Woman" by Goldsmith
Ummm I don't quite know what to think of this poem. I kinda feel like this poem is, in a way putting down men but yet puffing them up at the same time. At first, he is saying that it is almost inevitable that a man will betray(cheat?) on his wife. He says that if a woman does not realize the cruelties of men, she will be led to tears and heartache after which nothing can be done. But after that he says that women forgive their lover in order to hide their guilt and shame. I almost feel like he thinks that it is okay for men to cheat on their wives because they will end up being forgiven anyway. Sad... This was the only one I felt like blogging about. I wasn't crazy about the louse, mouse, or infant one but really, really liked the Human Abstract one. Can't wait to talk about the complexities of the human mind tomorrow... :D
