thoughts on various subjects

so, i know ms. s said not to go with the easy one, the religion one..but as i was reading kaitlyns i wrote a comment back to her, and it was long enough to be my blog post, so i'm just gonna go with it. so this will be like my own thoughts and a response to kaitlyn :D "We have just enough religion to makes us hate, but not enough to make us love one another". I am going to have to say I completely agree with this, and it makes me super sad! I think that people are so caught up in religion. that is praying, going to church every sunday like good little boys and girls, and all of that stuff that religion is supposed to be. people who focus on just religion do not want to go to hell. i believe their only goal is to go to heaven. they go to church and act all like "praise God!" but then go to school and are like f this, f that. they are only in this to be a "good person". But on the other hand, i also think their are people who go to church because they believe in Jesus (or whoever they believe in) and want a relationship with Him. They want to show love to others, because of the love Jesus showed for them by dying on the cross. They want others to know the love of God. And in shelby high school, and i'm sure in every other school, you get shut down for it. they call you bible thumpers, or call you Jesus freaks, or think its ridiculous that you bring your bible to lunch. THESE PEOPLE ARE THE REASON WHY LOVE IS NOT SHOWN! People judge peoples relationship, they call them hypocrites, they expect church goers to be "perfect", they judge other people's churches "cult on a hill"...ring any bells? i honestly believe that if people quit judging and just gave people a chance, then there would be more love. i mean how many people do you see shoving religion down other peoples throats? not many, because they are afraid of rejection and that they will be judged from everyone else! i think the first step would be different religions getting along, churches getting along. there is no reason for fighting or hate between churches, especially since its super hypocritical and the only reason why there should be churches is to worship and spend time with your "whoever". religion=lame, relationship=amazing! :D but this quote inspires me a lot, maybe we should get out there and love like crazy throughout the school, so don't start judging when we do! :)

  1. So Kendra...(and please don't hate me for this) I am glad that you are solid in your religious beliefs but, since everyone else was sharing their feelings I decided to join in too. These are just my opinions and I'm sorry if they offend anyone. Here goes:

    1. You said: " i honestly believe that if people quit judging and just gave people a chance, then there would be more love."
Well, I think that churches and religion are the ones that tend to judge the most. If someone told you that they were atheist or gay then (as by most beliefs) they would be headed straight to hell and you would judge them for that. But just because someone doesn't believe in your god or isn't straight does not mean that they aren't a good person and that they don't deserve the same love and respect that you give fellow Christians.

    2. You said: "And in shelby high school, and i'm sure in every other school, you get shut down for it. they call you bible thumpers, or call you Jesus freaks, or think its ridiculous that you bring your bible to lunch."
Well, I think that no one in Shelby gets shut down for showing their love for God. People are allowed to have morning prayer circles, carry bibles, and post bible verses on school stuff. If anything, I believe, that it is the ones that don't join the prayer circle and don't tote bible books that are the ones looked down upon.

    3. You said: "maybe we should get out there and love like crazy throughout the school, so don't start judging when we do! :)"
Well, I think that is a great idea because God knows there are a lot of people in this school that need loving.

Just remember to love those that need it the most because those are the ones that are hardest to love.

  2. Jen, thank-you for sharing your opinion. I am not offended at all.

    1. I am just going to be honest and say that I don't think churches judge as bad as others think we do. Yes, we believe in a heaven and a hell, and we believe that if you are not saved, you will spend eternity in hell. But I don't think that were out there saying "oh my gosh, don't do this" and then they turn around and do it. And for those people who do, they are not real Christians. They are hypocrites and give religions and churches the wrong name. People shouldn't base their opinions off of these people.

    2. I believe that we do get shut down for our religion at school. Everyone has their own opinion and I have honestly felt shut down at school, and I have talked with others about this and they have too. We are allowed to do those things, but that doesn't mean people aren't judging us for being like that or making fun of us because we want to have a relationship with God.

3.I think this is a great idea too! Hopefully this works. And I completely agree with your last statement, I think everyone needs to keep it in mind :)

  3. Kendra, I don't mean to offend you either... :)
But, at school, I have been told to my face to "go to hell" by a few people who go to your church because I am lutheran. As a lutheran, i believe that everybody goes to heaven; no matter your relgion, even if you're athiest, if God loves you he will always accept you. But, other religions (aka "cult on a hill") tell me that since i'm not baptist or someo other religion that I'm automatically going to hell.

So, I'm not judging. I'm just telling everybody who reads this what I've been told. To my face.

  4. Okay Kendra, well I'm glad I didn't offend you! I tend to do that when I share my opinion...because it's sometimes a bit different.
You made some really good rebuttal points but to #2: I feel like if I expressed anything other than Christian beliefs then I would also get shut down by many people. (Just to clear everything up I DO believe in God and am not an atheist.)But I do feel like a lot people simply attend a church, carry a bible, act Christian because they feel like that will get them accepted. I believe that those are the ones who tell Kaitlyn to go to hell and those are the ones that think everyone who doesn't tote a bible is joining her in hell.

Also, to the love people (#3) thing it reminded of a really inspirational thing that happened this summer. There was this guy at camp who was different. He probably had some minor mental problem, he wore long pants, button up shirts, and dress shoes everyday at camp. Even when it was muddy or raining he still dressed up. A lot people didn't include him in activities or make conversation with him and I will sadly admit that I was one of those people. But on the last day of camp I saw my best friend sitting alone with him and talking. She had gone out of her way, gone against the grain, and loved the "unlovable" even if it made others think less of her.
Yeah, it sounds really cheesy but it really made me think. Just thought I'd share the story with you.

  5. well reading all of these kendra I dont realy understand your interpertation of the quote I took it as that the world has enought religion in it for people to seclude themselves and push away others because there different but if we had MORE religion and fulley understood it we would know that god loves all and we shouldnt build up thoese walls.
ok wait in reading this i understand what you meant :P sory!! haha

  6. Kaitlyn, I'm not going to keep arguing about churches and who goes where because honestly it doesn't matter, and that wasn't my point for this blog. Whoever supposedly told you to "go to hell" probably wasn't a legit Christian and just acted that way to feel good about themselves. So I wouldn't base your thoughts of the church on anything those "people" have said.

Jen, I completely agree with you about that. There is so many fights in between religions and whose is right and whose is wrong, and to be honest..none of us know. But I do agree every religion gets shut down, it's not just one or the other. And yeah, the people who did tell Kaitlyn to "go to hell" were probably fakes, the people I said only wanted to go to Heaven, not because they loved God, but they just didn't want to go to hell. And that story is really cool, I think that we show favoritism to a lot of people and it's not right. Just because people have any sort of handicaps, it's not right! And it is soo hard sometimes because people try to fit in with the world, but those few people who stand out like that are really cool!

And Tonya, I have no idea what your trying to say, sorry!

  7. The number one thing that sticks out to me here is that you seem to think kindness and love comes from religion. Though many good deeds have been done that were inspired by religion it has also gone the other way as it is pointed out in this epigram.

  8. I actually was trying to steer away from that completely! I do not think that kindness and love come from religion. I think that religion is just not wanting to go to hell.

  9. You're right, this isn't a fight between churches and honestly, my church is way too small to be fought over anyway. Plus, that also wasn't my point of blogging or commenting on your post. You were saying things about not judging and I was just simply saying that I have already been judged (on several occasions.) but that's normal. The human race WILL judge, especially in Shelby. Because we are so small, basically everybody knows everybody. So people that we know and love are going to judge. We can't stop it.

Sorry, it turned into a comment about judging lol :)
