Infant Sorrow
This peom is sad. It show that poor people and kids didn't really have much at all. Another child meant another mouth to feed and cloth. Back then it was hard if you didn't have money. Without money you couldn't survive like you should of. You get what you can and then you deal with it.

I agree with the hardship of raising children during this time period, but i also think it alludes to hardships in that time.
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely a very dismal and pessimistic tone in this piece. To be born was to enter a world filled with sorrow and pain for the common man.
ReplyDeleteNormally when you think of birth you think of new life and happiness but this poem brings a sense of darkness. The poem doesn't focus on the positives of life, rather on the pain and suffering that it brings.
