In-class discussion (Frankenstein Letters)

I really liked In the beginning, he seemed completely ready to leave behind his pursuit of becoming an amazing writer such as Shakespeare and pursue his life long dream of sailing to the "pole" to make a great discovery. He showed his determination when he took part on several voyages on several different ships, always proving himself to be a hard worker. Then he began feeling extreme lonely, and craved human companionship in the form of a close friend. All he wanted was a person to be there when he needed to divulge his feelings instead of having to express them solely on paper. I feel like he somewhat got his wish when they pulled the stranger on board. This stranger caused curiosity among the sailers and although he was curious himself, he didn't "disturb" the stranger. Then when they realized they were a lot alike, I felt like he got a part, even if only a small part, of the friendship that he so desperately desired. I really didn't think that the language of the letters was that hard to understand, the story was engaging and seemed pretty easy to follow. I hope the rest of the story is as interesting as the letters were!

  1. I can't believe that Mary Shelley thought up this whole thing in one weekend... and that the idea came from the telling of ghost stories. wow.
