The hollow man
If one was to just read the hollow man they would have no idea what it is about. To understand the hollow man it takes alot of thought and knowledge to know that eliot is talking about death the entire time. But it is really interesting how eliot talks of death and the metaphors he uses for death. Like what grace said about having the knowledge to the author would have helped us know more on the reasoning eliot had for writting the story and more to the meaning but i don't know that.

It does help a lot. Its just like any other piece of literature. You need to get to know more about the author that way you can see his/her reasoning behind it. Thanks for agreeing with me.
ReplyDeleteYea to begin with, it seems like there isn't much to this poem...but when you go deep, it shows how Eliot really feels about society. He doesn't like it and thinks no one is independent. Awwwwww he brought up grace's throughts in his post...i feel the love in the air... :p
ReplyDeleteEliot is really tough to read... you have to piece together his message by analyzing the images and words he uses. But I think you guys are on the right track when you talk about the disillusionment Eliot feels toward society... the corruption... etc. Remember this is POST-WAR England and almost the Great Depression.
