VIRGINS

Haha ok so this is confusing me slightley, well ok a lot. I cant figure out if it is promoting abnstance or not. I dont think it is because of the time in which it was writen, but the poem in my oppion conflicts it's self, or it may just be confusing me. Either way I need to figure it out! lol

The first (I'll call it a stanza?) stanza in my deciphering is saying collect your youthfull beauty while you can because it will fade. The second stanza continues with the fact that the older you get the uglier you will become. The third stanza is what realy started confusing me the line "times still succeed the forme." Does this mean that the age will succeed the beauty or that being older you are becoming more mature. The last stanaza says "but use your time" I'm not sure the meaning of, because it's implying that they can take their time but the rest says not to? But the next line says "you may forever tarry (delay)" It's just all confusing me!!

Well writing this (well paper lol) has helped a lot, but i would appreciate more!! Good thing were going to talk about this tomorrow!! :)

Good Quote

This is that really good quote that we talked about in class today. Its from John Donne's "Meditation 17":

"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main."

I like this quote a lot because it is still accurate today. Although we, as a society, have many differences, we have more similarities. It seems like the differences are all we focus on, and that has hurt our world.

Donne

I have found a recurring theme of death in his writings. A lot of times when an author writes on a specific theme multiple times, their history reflects the theme. Artists (writing, visual or performance) tend to pull their childhood into their works to reflect more honest feelings and to get the reader more emotional. Painters who were abused as a child often paint in darkness to reflect sadness, and captivity. I believe that Donne had to be faced with death as a small child, or maybe just very exposed to the wickedness of the world.

Oddly though, he has a senses of light to his writings as well. He doesn't keep a graven attitude throughout, although he talks of death, but rather highlights good things. He laughs in the face of death, often thought the scariest thing of life, and tells him he is powerless. He talks of the afterlife, with such promise, excitement, and sureness that any reader feels hope.

New Trimester

So it sounds like comparing last Trimester's "B" class (with Ms. K) is going to be a waste of time. From what Ms. Stariha has said, there will be many differences between this tri and the last B class. Not having an exam, not having any fun assignments, and stuff like that is what I have heard about it. Comparing the two trimesters won't prove anything because its a different teacher.

Here I come!!!!

I dont know if u saw but i tore up last tri ...literally haha...but i think you all underestimate me!! and i dont like it. So im gonna prove you all wrong. YOU WAIT!!! lol
