I remember Mrs.
Stariha saying that the 17Th century was a time period of transition into more modern forms of literature but I had no idea it would be as dramatic as the difference between Paradise Lost and The Pilgrim's Progress. The Pilgrim's Progress was a thousand time easier to read because it was in almost moder text (not to mention it used the word "hubbub" a couple of times) and Paradise Lost was written in text that was similar to Middle English. I hope that this is a sign that that stories will just get easier form here on out.
Yes... the style is VERY different! Milton was quite scholarly and he used an epic approach to his Paradise Lost. I had to read the whole 1000 plus pages of it in college... so you can thank me (and Prentice Hall) for only making you read 9 pages!
ReplyDeleteHubbub I noticed that also it actually made me smile!! :)
