Similarities

I really love that we are talking about this whole "softness" of society because in many ways it relates directly to our society today. Just in one class I feel like so many links are evident. For instance the whole green movement; honestly its the same "save the world" idea that the people of this time period had. Except, I think that their intents were different. From what we have seen so far, it seems like the intents of the romantic age people were to go back to how things were originally, go back to the purity of nature and negate all of destruction. But now I feel like that we have this mind set that in order to get more advanced we need to be green. That if we want to save the world we need to be green. Contradictory to romantics, we still have selfish intent, and desire to progress instead of throwing in the towel and in some way just let nature take its course... Even though we have only talked about it one day- these are just my thoughts :)

  1. Haha you are right emily, but we have to remember that there are still MANY people in our world who are utterly clueless when it comes to helping the environment and trying to keep our earth clean. Along with even more people who really just don't care.

  2. agreed... there are so many different views of the earth: soft, because we need to be careful with it; violent, because we are sometimes caught utterly helpless in it; mysterious, because we still have lots to learn about it; and beautiful, because there is so much beauty intertwined in its making.

  3. DJ's comment reminded me of how in Michigan we can see all those views in about two hours on some days.
